The jams Europeans actually keep in the cupboard, which are mostly not the ones American shelves carry.
Lingonberry is the one to try first if it is new to you: sharp, faintly bitter, and the traditional partner to meatballs, potato pancakes and game rather than to toast. Felix and Gut & Günstig both do a wild version. Podravka rose hip spread is Croatian, tart and slightly floral. Imperiya varenye is the Russian style, whole berries suspended in a light syrup rather than set firm, meant to be spooned into tea as much as spread on bread.
Lowell covers the everyday: rhubarb and strawberry, and a multifruit marmalade in a 1.1 kg jar big enough to mean it. d'arbo has made Austrian fruit spreads since 1879. Maison Francis Miot comes from a house that has won France's best-jam prize. And Grafschafter Goldsaft is not a jam at all but German sugar-beet syrup, dark and treacly, which lives on bread all the same.
All shelf-stable, all shipping anywhere in the United States.
