Wafers, chocolate bars and biscuits — the sweets people buy by the armful because they have not seen them since childhood.

The wafer shelf is the strongest. Manner Original Neapolitaner, the pink packet from Vienna, hazelnut cream in five thin layers, unchanged since 1898. Kraš Napolitanke from Croatia in hazelnut and chocolate, cut into fingers rather than squares. Evropa nougat crispy wafers, Manamim coated wafers, and Franzeluta halvah and milk waffle cookies from Moldova.

For chocolate: Niederegger marzipan in bar and roll, which is the Lübeck benchmark and not comparable to supermarket marzipan; Milka in plain and the oversized Mmmax; Alenka and Vdokhnovenie from the Russian shelf; Heidi, Maitre Truffout Grazioso and Mozartsticks, a Belgian bar, and Taitau with no added sugar. Ferrero Hanuta and Raffaello, plus Kinder Schokolade in a Playmobil edition that exists mainly to end an argument in the car.

Biscuits fill the rest: Bahlsen Russisch Brot alphabet letters, De Beukelaer Prinzen Rolle, Gullón lady fingers, Delicje, Dobrogea Eugenia, Nyåkers Swedish ginger snaps and Ülker tea biscuits in a 1 kg box.

Biscuits and wafers ship anywhere in the United States. Chocolate travels to California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Arizona, because it does not survive a hot truck — and in the hottest weeks we may get in touch about insulated packaging before a box goes out.
