The blue 1 kg bag. Vegeta is the seasoning of the Balkans — invented in Koprivnica in 1959 and now in essentially every kitchen across Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Slovenia and well beyond. A savoury blend of salt, dried vegetables and flavour enhancers, used the way an American cook uses bouillon powder: in soups, stews, meat rubs, rice, roast potatoes.

Few seasonings carry this much recognition with Balkan customers. It needs no explanation to them at all — and for everyone else, "the Croatian all-purpose seasoning since 1959" is a good line.

Salt, dehydrated vegetables (carrot, parsnip, onion, potato, celery, parsley leaves), monosodium glutamate, sugar, cornstarch, black pepper, nutmeg, disodium inosinate, riboflavin (colour).
