Ferrero Hanuta Hazelnut Wafer, 1.55 oz (44g)

Baked to European rules. Potassium bromate and azodicarbonamide, both used to treat flour in American baking, are not permitted in the European Union. Six food colours that are still common in American biscuits and iced cakes must carry a warning on the label here, so European bakers stopped using them. Titanium dioxide, used to make icing and coatings an opaque white, has been banned as a food colour in the EU since 2022. It is the same reason the ingredient list on the back of the pack is short.

The single pack — two wafers, the size that goes in a coat pocket or a lunchbox. Crisp golden wafer around a thick layer of hazelnut and cocoa cream, studded with roasted hazelnut pieces. Made in Germany by Ferrero with 13% hazelnuts, roasted by Ferrero themselves, so the nuts are the point of the product rather than a trace.
