Baked to European rules. Potassium bromate and azodicarbonamide, both used to treat flour in American baking, are not permitted in the European Union. Six food colours that are still common in American biscuits and iced cakes must carry a warning on the label here, so European bakers stopped using them. Titanium dioxide, used to make icing and coatings an opaque white, has been banned as a food colour in the EU since 2022. It is the same reason the ingredient list on the back of the pack is short.
Two thin waffle discs with caramel syrup between them, from the Dutch town of Gouda. Rest one on top of a hot cup of tea or coffee for a minute and the syrup softens — this is not optional, it is how they are eaten.
The full ingredient, allergen and nutrition statement is printed on the pack. If you need to check something before you order, call the shop on (707) 527-0319 and we will read it off the jar for you.
