Butterkäse — "butter cheese" — the gentlest thing Chalet Cheese make. Pale gold, semi-soft, and as the pack says, delicate and buttery: no bite at all. The cheese to put in front of someone who says they do not like cheese, and a very good melter.

Eating it

Slices well for sandwiches and melts cleanly without going oily — good on toast, in a toasted sandwich, or over potatoes. On a board it is the mild corner, next to something stronger.

Worth knowing: the low salt

At 65 mg of sodium an ounce this is a fraction of what most cheeses carry. If you are watching salt, this is one of the few cheeses that makes it easy.

Contains MILK. That is the only allergen declared.

Ingredients

Pasteurized whole milk, salt, cultures, enzymes, annatto (for colour). The annatto is a natural seed colouring and is the only thing in here beyond milk, salt and the cultures that set it.
