Skinless sardine fillets in olive oil, from Appel of Cuxhaven on the German North Sea coast, who have been canning fish since 1879. "Madeleine Rot" is their olive-oil tin — the fillets are packed by hand, whole and unbroken, which is what you are paying for over a mashed-up sardine.
- 105 g net · 80 g fish before cooking
- 76% sardine fillets, 22% olive oil, salt — and nothing else
- Skinless and boneless, so they go straight onto bread
- Ring-pull tin
Eating them
On buttered dark rye with a squeeze of lemon and a turn of pepper. Or mashed with a little of their own oil, mustard and parsley, which is a better sandwich than it sounds.
What is in the tin
Sardine fillets (Sardina pilchardus) 76%, olive oil, salt. Caught in the Eastern Central Atlantic, FAO area 34, northern coast, by purse seine and lift net.
Allergens
Contains fish. That is the complete allergen statement as printed on the tin.
