Ahlgrens Bilar Original Candy Cars, 5.6 oz (160g)

Soft foam-sugar cars in pastel colours — reputedly the best-selling sweet in Sweden, and certainly the most recognised.

The texture is the thing: not gummy, not marshmallow, but a dry chewy foam that is particular to Swedish confectionery and has no real equivalent elsewhere. The flavour is mild and faintly fruity by design.

They have been made since 1953 and the shape has not changed, which is most of the reason Swedes abroad buy them.

Made to European food rules on additives and labelling.
