Legends of Germany Collectible Beer Stein, 0.9 L

A proper Rhine stein: 0.9 litres and 7.5 inches tall, hand painted over an engraved relief that runs the whole way round. The scene is the stretch of river every German river cruise sells tickets for — Cologne Cathedral, the Loreley rock, St. Goar, Burg Rheinfels and the castles above Bacharach — with the place names picked out on little scrolls so you can find each one. GERMANY runs round the rim in gold, DEUTSCHLAND round the foot, and a pewter-grey handle finishes it. It holds a half-litre with room for the head, and it looks like what it is: something somebody brought home.

Glazed ceramic, hand painted over an engraved relief, with a pewter-grey handle and the maker’s logo on the base. The supplier specifies HAND WASH ONLY — not the dishwasher, which would take the colour off a hand-painted piece.

Hand wash in warm water. Do not put it in the dishwasher.
