Lambertz Zimtsterne Cinnamon Stars with Hazelnuts and Almonds, 6.17 oz (175g)

Cinnamon stars — the German Christmas biscuit. A soft, chewy nut dough under a hard white meringue lid, cut into stars. Not a shortbread and not a gingerbread: something of its own.

The dough is mostly hazelnuts and almonds, finely chopped, with cinnamon, lemon and orange peel through it. There is only a little wheat flour — the nuts do the work, which is why the middle stays moist for weeks while the icing stays crisp.

Lambertz has been baking in Aachen since 1688, over 330 years, and Zimtsterne are one of the handful of things they are known for.

Ingredients: sugar, hazelnut almond mixture (hazelnuts, almonds), fructose, lemon peel, wheat flour, glucose fructose syrup, orange peel, cinnamon, dried egg white, wheat starch, acid: citric acid; raising agent: ammonium carbonates; invert sugar syrup, gelling agent: agar-agar.

Contains hazelnuts, almonds, wheat and egg. May contain other nuts, peanuts, milk, lupin, sesame and soya.
