These are the pieces Germans buy for the office tin and the afternoon visitor. 18% almonds in the dough, marzipan-style filling through the middle, dusted heavily with sugar.

Serving them: straight from the bag at room temperature. They keep well in a sealed tin and travel better than a whole loaf, which makes them the easier thing to send as a gift.
