Nyåkers Ginger Snaps Almond, 5.3 oz (150 g)

Baked to European rules. Potassium bromate and azodicarbonamide, both used to treat flour in American baking, are not permitted in the European Union. Six food colours that are still common in American biscuits and iced cakes must carry a warning on the label here, so European bakers stopped using them. Titanium dioxide, used to make icing and coatings an opaque white, has been banned as a food colour in the EU since 2022. It is the same reason the ingredient list on the back of the pack is short.

Cream and brown box, bilingual English/Spanish. The same thin, snapping Swedish pepparkakor as the Original, with an almond note layered over the clove, cinnamon and ginger — softer and rounder than the plain version.

The almond flavour makes it the gentler of the two — less peppery bite, more marzipan warmth. Also labelled "Suitable for vegans and vegetarians" on the box, like its sibling. Slightly less sugar than the Original (10 g vs 12 g per serving).
