The original Dresden alphabet biscuit. Thin, dark, crisp letters that snap rather than crumble — children spell with them and adults eat them with coffee, and that has been true since the recipe came out of Dresden in the nineteenth century.

Dr. Quendt still bakes them in Dresden, and the bag says Unser Original for a reason: there are copies, and this is the one the name belongs to. The 2026 recipe adds a fine caramel note — mit feiner Karamellnote — which is what gives the letters their colour as much as the cocoa does.

Almost no fat in them at all: 0 g per serving. They are sugar, flour and malt, baked hard.

Ingredients: sugar, wheat flour, caramel sugar syrup, egg white powder, barley malt extract syrup, wheat starch, rye malt flour, low fat cocoa, magnesium oxide, barley malt extract powder, ground vanilla beans, spices.

Contains wheat and egg. May contain soy, milk, tree nuts (almonds) and sesame.
